There are many book clubs. This group reads literary classics...books that have stood the test of time. So we'll never read the hot new thing...we'll read books that are 10-10,000 years old but are still in print. We'll read Homer, Dante, Salinger, Faulkner, Flannery O'Connor, John Kennedy Toole, Alice Walker, Shakespeare. Great authors, great books. We'll read fiction, poetry, drama, folk tales, philosophy. This book club began in 2007 in response to a gap in book clubs in the West side of the Triangle. Since then, many book clubs have emerged (on meetup, and elsewhere). We're still around, and I guess that means something is working. We alternate locations (between Chapel Hill and Durham), and for the most part, meet the last Tuesday of the month. This is a book club that will meet monthly at one of the local coffee shops. Most of the books we read are best sellers and we will vote every month. We will also have book swaps from time to time. This group is limited to women in their 30's and 40's.
If you like reading and good conversation you'll like our group. Friendly, fun, and open to new reading ideas, we read all over the place. Mostly literary fiction, with some popular fiction and a few light titles for fun thrown in the mix.
